Method

In order to make students fully aware of their acquired language skills, Programma Italiano, as a rule, makes a continual and careful monitoring of their linguistic attainments, during the courses.

On signing their enrolment document, students already know their own personalised course's program, since it has been planned, personalised and presented during those previous information exchanges, which are part of our preliminary admission procedure. Students, before enrolling in their personalised courses, have to sit for the Entrance Test, that allows us to confirm what we presented as the course's teaching objects. Our teachers are qualified and skilful and our teaching method privileges personalised individual courses, or courses for small groups of students with an homogeneous basic knowledge of our language. During the period which comes before their course's beginning, students can make acquaintance with their teacher and our method, by using "Italian Mail", a free service which works by means of personalised exchange of communications by e-mail.

The procedural method, that we are describing, is to be followed for every applier. Our company has the intellectual right of this method, which represents the result of the linguistic and teaching careful activities of our Research Area. The procedural method is the following:

1. From the Questionnaire to the course's planning: the first reference is the "tutor".
After the student's request for a free proposal, we ask for the compilation of our Questionnaire, consequently, we are able to get to the course's definition by means of an exchange of e-mails with the student , so that we can decide together the course's kind, the level, the program, the lodgement, the thesis, the complementary activities, the special activities, the social relations and even the working activities. We enable our students to live in the best, total way their stay in Italy, according to their inclinations. From the first contacts by e-mail, our students will receive the help of a tutor. The tutor will be at their disposal during every moment of their course and stay in our country. The tutor is helpful not only to carry on the teaching program, but also to face all those problems of the every-day-life, that sometimes cannot be easily worked out, as students are far from home. We mean, for instance, the residence permit, the difficulty to find the way to the hotel or to the school, the relations with public organisations and administrative offices.

2. Entrance Test.
During the first day, students have to sit for the Entrance Test, before their enrolment. Only when the Test has positive results, according to our MVS (Subjective Valuation Method), we can confirm the proposed teaching plan and complete the enrolment. The Test wants to point out the students' present and real language knowledge and skills, so that we can confirm or plan again the aims, the terms and the teaching plan, with the agreement of the students themselves.

3. Didactics.
Each class, according to the results of the previous MVS valuation of the student, is characterized by the careful application of our teaching technique to every different function of the language. Our method at first guides students through the study of the linguistic theoretic rules, by means of direct practical experiences; then, they will face an intensive application of the attained theoretical and practical information, in order to submit an acceptable thesis summarizing critically the material they have covered and/or to carry on application activities and social relations in every professional, cultural or sport field.

4. Verifications.
At the end of each classe, students' skills will be checked to verify the concurrence of their real learning improvements with the program's expectations. It is very important to share with students the awareness of their effective improvements. We want to create an atmosphere of transparency: by means of the frequent tests and of the classes reports, our students can assume the responsibility of their studies and see their improvements and how they are attaining their objects.

5. The thesis.
At the beginning of each course, tutors suggest to students a topic and a practical goal to be attained by means of their new linguistic knowledge, according to their personal and cultural inclinations. Suggestions such as the realisation of an exhibition where they can show their original culture, the show of their pictures or photos, as well as interviews, thesis, literary researches and journalistic activities: each of these activities can represent an application field of what students learn during our courses.

6. Social relations, application and complementary activities.
In order to counterbalance our courses that are often for one student or for small groups of three or five, we invite our students to join several activities that take place particularly in the evenings or during the week-ends, planned by our company in order, not only to make our students meet and know each other, but also to introduce them to the Programma Italiano Clubs, where there are other Italian and foreign people, who love our language and culture, and want to share occasions of meeting and making acquaintance. Besides, to people who would like to follow the programs of the athletic, sailing or trekking group, we give the opportunity to put together the cultural, social and sport aspects in a teaching plan made on purpose.

7. Final valuation test.
At the end of each course, by means of the final MVS valuation and of the MVO certification (Objective Valuation Method), our students are able to check the achievement of the aims of their course's program and to verify if it corresponds to their effective language ability. Besides, if they are interested, they will have the opportunity to apply for maintenance programs, to be followed in their own countries, or for teaching programs of more advanced level.
